Ann B. Waldo

Ann B. Waldo, J.D., CIPP, is a partner at Oldaker, Belair, and Wittie, LLP, focusing on health care and consumer protection privacy. Her privacy practice includes assisting clients with internally facing matters such as privacy compliance, risk management, information security, marketing, human relations, contracts, website design, corporate policies, international data transfers, and integrating privacy goals into business strategy. In addition, she assists clients with externally facing functions, including government relations, public policy development, public relations, coalition-building, and public speaking.

Prior to joining OBW, Ms. Waldo served as an independent privacy attorney and consultant advising health care and technology clients. She previously served as global Chief Privacy Officer for Lenovo, a worldwide computer manufacturer. Her responsibilities include spearheading privacy compliance in human resources, marketing, and product development, and serving as a public policy advocate on national and international privacy issues. She was previously the Chief Privacy Officer at Hoffmann-La Roche, handling privacy compliance and best practices in U.S. marketing, human relations, HIPAA, and clinical research. She was actively involved with the International Pharmaceutical Privacy Consortium, co-chairing the State Working Group and leading state advocacy efforts. She worked in Public Policy at GlaxoSmithKline, providing legislative support on privacy, infectious disease, and other health policy issues. Previously, she served as in-house counsel at IBM, working on consumer protection, marketing, crisis management, and e-business. Prior to IBM, she had been a commercial litigator and had staffed the Ohio Senate Ways and Means Committee for the Ohio Legislative Service Commission.

She represented the United States government in the APEC Electronic Commerce Steering Group privacy talks in Korea in 2005 and Australia in 2007. A frequent public speaker, she is active in the International Association of Privacy Professionals and the Carolina Privacy Officials Network. She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional.

Ms. Waldo graduated from The University of North Carolina School of Law with high honors in 1995. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, she holds a B.A. degree in religion from Ohio Wesleyan University (summa cum laude).
