Meg Thompson

Ms. Meg Thompson recently joined The Oldaker Group after three years as a partner the co-located government relations and lobbying firm, The National Group. At the National Group, Ms. Thompson advocates on behalf of not-for-profit clients such as, universities, hospitals and research institutions seeking federal appropriations. Ms. Thompson is the federal funding consultant for the Policy Committee of the Walton Family Foundation coalition to restore coastal Louisiana, whose members include the Environmental Defense Fund, National Wildlife Federation, National Audubon Society, and the Nature Conservancy.

Ms. Thompson has more than two decades experience in the House of Representatives, the United States Senate, and the Washington, D.C. advocacy community. In 2007, Ms. Thompson served on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies, where she had principle responsibility for the Department of Justice. In 2006, Ms. Thompson served on the Subcommittee on Homeland Security where she had primary responsibility for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Preparedness Directorate. From 2001-2005, Ms. Thompson served on the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies.

Before joining the House Appropriations Committee, Ms. Thompson spent three years as Director of Communications for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and spent two years as a lobbyist for health and medical research clients.

Prior to the private sector, Ms. Thompson served on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies from 1992-1997. Ms. Thompson has the rare experience of working for both the Senate and House Appropriations Committees and for both Republican and Democratic majorities and as such Ms. Thompson is widely regarded as a professional who can build consensus and coalitions across parties.
