Kevin Coy

Privacy

A partner with Oldaker, Belair & Wittie, Mr. Coy advises privacy-sensitive organizations on domestic and international privacy law and policy matters concerning a wide range of personal information, including credit and financial information, criminal history information, health information, and human resources information. Mr. Coy also advises clients on online privacy issues, the conduct of privacy impact assessments, and privacy best practices.

Mr. Coy has extensive experience advising clients regarding compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the Drivers’ Privacy Protection Act, the HIPAA privacy and security regulations and other privacy laws and regulations. Mr. Coy advises clients on data security and breach notification laws and best practices for responding to a data security incident.

Mr. Coy has advised clients international transborder data flow issues and other matters in connection with the EU Data Privacy Directive and implementing national laws (and the EU/US Safe Harbor), Canada’s PIPEDA, and other foreign privacy laws and regulations.

Mr. Coy also represents clients in proceedings before the Federal Trade Commission.

Mr. Coy has spoken and written articles on privacy and other issues, which have appeared in newspapers nationwide. He is also co-author of a chapter in The Future of Financial Privacy and the author of an article on privacy in the medical research context.
